Did anyone else notice the many comparisons, including martyrdom,  that Cabeza de Vaca makes between himself and Jesus? How was this not considered offensive during a time so near to the Spanish Inquisition?

  1. I do think that he compares himself to Jesus througout the whole book. It’s almost as if he is acting as a prophet or the messiah who is there to liberate the Indians. By the way, thanks for the comment! I did read “bless me ultima.” I read it in Chicano Lit and it was great novel.

  2. I was thinking the same thing about some of his comparisons being offensive back then…I like the pictures, is the first one CdV??
